Though this is the hardest thing we've been through with our dad; him not remembering, the confusion, the talking about things 40 years ago, there is a part of me that is finding peace. If that makes sense. He is making us laugh as always, he smiles at me from across the room and winks, he talks about how he can't wait for Opening Day ... what will Hunter bring to the team LOL ... he knows Cabrera is my guy. Baseball is our thing you know.
He's telling me stories of 50 years ago. The pools, pouring cement, his boys working on the job site. Painting cars, riding horses, Uncle Al, Uncle Joe. All of his best memories. He is sharing them all. I can only close my eyes and thank God he's had such a long, amazing life. He is surrounded by so many people who love him like crazy. Not only family, but so many dear friends. He's been blessed. And we've been blessed. And pops, we're gonna get through this and whatever happens, you will be fine. We will be fine. You are our hero and I promise to work as hard as I can to never let you forget that.
